MWC11: Intel zeigt Tablet User Interface für MeeGo [Update]

Auf der letzten Computex hat ja Intel bereits einen kleinen Einblick in das User Interface von MeeGo gegeben und auf dem Mobile World Congress wurde heute die neuste Version gezeigt, die sich optisch jedoch nicht großartig geändert hat. Verbesserungen sollen eher unter der Haube stattgefunden haben. MeeGo befindet sich jedoch auch noch im Alpha-Zustand und ist noch nicht fertig für den Markt, die aktuelle Version und das Tablet soll eher Entwickler ansprechen.

Damit Intel diese Entwickler auch für die Plattform gewinnen kann, bekommt jeder, der Intels AppLab auf dem Mobile World Congress besucht, ein solches Tablet geschenkt. Es fehlen in der aktuellen Version auch noch einige wichtige Features wie zum Beispiel Multitouch, diese sollen mit MeeGo 1.2 im Frühjahr nachgereicht werden.

Zu jetzigen Zeitpunkt fällt es schwer zu glauben, dass MeeGo in einigen Monaten konkurrenzfähig zu den anderen Oberflächen wie Android, webOS oder iOS sein soll. Doch bedenkt, dass es sich hier wie gesagt nur um eine Alpha-Version handelt und bis zum finalen Produkt noch eine Menge Zeit vergehen wird. Erste Eindrücke von MeeGo und dem Tablet gibt es entweder bei Engadget oder Carrypad, im Anschluss findet ihr noch zwei Video von dem Tablet in Aktion.

Update

Kurzes Update, eine vielleicht nicht ganz neutrale Sichtweise der Pre-Alpha von MeeGo 1.2 gibt es im AppUp Entwicklerblog von Intel. Folgende Details und Spezifikationen sind bekannt:

  • ExoPC Slate by ExoPC, Canada

Folgende Sprachen werden bis jetzt unterstützt: Japanese, Korean, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Swedish, Polish, Finnish, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Dutch, English and British English.

Intels Tablet User Experience von MeeGo v1.2 beinhaltet:

  • State-of-the-art Linux kernel 2.6.37 including support for the Intel® Atom™ processor Z6xx series family (formerly codenamed „Moorestown“) and upcoming „Oak Trail“ platforms.
  • GNU C compiler and run-time library support for Intel Atom micro-architecture and Intel SSSE3 instruction set enabling improved performance for many applications via simple recompilation and relinking.
  • Qt 4.7 (including QtQuick/QML) and QtMobility 1.1 providing a rich set of APIs for compelling applications that include location, sensors, contacts and messaging.
  • MeeGo sensor framework enabling developers to exploit platform sensors such as accelerometers, compasses and gyroscopes to build compelling applications
  • Connection Manager support for WiFi, 3G and Bluetooth connections.  Recent enhancements include support for static IPV6 addresses, VPN support, tethering via USB and Bluetooth connections, and PPP over 3G.
  • Multimedia framework based on GStreamer.  Open source codecs such as Ogg Vorbis and Theora are included in MeeGo open source repository.  Proprietary, hardware accelerated codecs such as H.264 are available for license from third parties.  Demonstration codecs are also available as binary modules courtesy of Fluendo.  New features in MeeGo v1.2 include 3GPP streaming and HTTP progressive download.
  • Buteo synchronization framework that supports device to device and device to cloud sync via SyncML and synchronization of media content between device and PC.
  • Calendar and contacts engine based on Tracker.
  • Telephony enhancements: SIM/USIM toolkit, long SMS handling.
  • MeeGo SDK support for Linux, Windows XP and Windows 7.
  • Security framework based on Linux Simplified Mandatory Access Control Kernel (SMACK)
