Cydia: Jailbreak-Store steht vor dem Aus
Vor vielen Jahren war der Jailbreak mal ein wichtiges Instrument, um die vielen fehlenden Funktionen von iOS auszugleichen. Wobei viele auch gerne die illegalen Apps installierten. Mittlerweile ist der Jailbreak jedoch eher unpopulär geworden (es gibt aber immer noch eine Community).
Wer aber schon mal einen Jailbreak durchgeführt hat, der wird mit Sicherheit noch den Jailbreak-Store Cydia kennen. Der steht nun vor dem Aus.
Jay Freeman alias Saurik will sich im Laufe der Woche noch mal genauer zur Zukunft von Cydia äußern, doch auf Grund eines Problems mit PayPal wurde die Option zum Kaufen von Apps direkt deaktiviert. Das Projekt kostet Freeman mehr als es einbringt und lohnt sich wirtschaftlich nicht mehr.
The reality is that I wanted to just shut down the Cydia Store entirely before the end of the year, and was considering moving the timetable up after receiving the report (to this weekend); this service loses me money and is not something I have any passion to maintain: it was a critical component of a healthy ecosystem, and for a while it helped fund a small staff of people to maintain the ecosystem, but it came at great cost to my sanity and led lots of people to irrationally hate me due to what amounted to a purposeful misunderstanding of how profit vs. revenue works.
