LG stellt Display mit 5 Zoll und 1080p-Auflösung vor
Der Trend zu Geräten mit einem Display um die 5 Zoll ist da, das hat Samsung spätestens mit dem Galaxy Note bewiesen und auch der zukünftige Verkaufsschlager Galaxy S3 wird mit seinen 4,8 Zoll ganz klar in diese Richtung gehen. Android-Smartphones haben jedoch das Problem, dass mit der steigenden Displaygröße wiederum die Qualität des Displays an sich verloren geht, denn 720p wirken auf einem Galaxy Note schon wieder anders, als auf einem Galaxy Nexus. Nach der Consumer Electronic Show 2012 und Geräten wie dem TF700 von Asus war aber auch klar, dass der nächste Schritt zu 1080p auch nicht mehr lange dauern wird. LG Display hat heute ein AH-IPS-Display mit 5 Zoll und 1080p-Auflösung in Korea vorgestellt, welches in der zweiten Jahreshälfte sogar schon für Hersteller verfügbar sein soll.
Das Display soll den besten Betrachtungswinkel besitzen und hat eine Pixeldichte von 440 ppi. Zum Vergleich: Das Galaxy S3 besitzt 306 ppi und das iPhone 4(S) 326 ppi. Am 4. Juni möchte LG das Display auf der SID 2012 Display Week in Boston erstmals der Öffentlichkeit präsentieren. Es ist schön zu sehen, dass der Fortschritt so langsam nicht nur in Richtung großes Display, sondern auch hohe Auflösung geht, ich hoffe dann aber in Zukunft auch mal wieder auf ein Smartphone mit 4,3 Zoll und 720p, denn das würde mir persönlich schon ausreichen. Ich schätze mal, dass die nächste Smartphone-Generation mit Android pünktlich zum Weihnachtsgeschäft bereits mit diesem Display ausgestattet sein wird und wir uns dann darüber unterhalten werden, welcher Hersteller als erstes ein solches Gerät auf dem Markt haben wird.
LG Display Develops World’s First Full HD LCD Smartphone Panel

Seoul, Korea (May 28, 2012) – LG Display [NYSE: LPL, KRX: 034220], a leading manufacturer of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display, introduced today a 5″ Full HD LCD panel for smartphones – the highest resolution mobile panel to date. Allowing smartphone users to view Full HD content in the same quality as on TVs and monitors, LG Display and its new panel significantly advances the cloud computing experience widely considered the next major internet trend.
LG Display’s 5″ Full HD LCD panel is a step forward past existing mobile display technology. The LCD panel based on AH-IPS (Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching) technology features 440ppi and 1920×1080 resolution, providing for the first time Full HDTV quality on a smartphone. With 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, the panel is also 0.5 inches larger, 2.2 times denser in pixels, and 1.3 times more advanced in ppi than the preceding 4.5″ panel at 329ppi and 1280×720.

With the high density of AH-IPS, the naked eye is unable to distinguish between individual pixels. AH-IPS panels also express the original color of images highly precisely, and feature a wide viewing angle as well as stable display image and rapid response speed when touched. Finally, with its brighter light transmission and lower power consumption, AH-IPS is ideal for use in outdoor settings.
The 5″ Full HD LCD panel from LG Display is expected to be released during the second half of this year, and will be on exhibit for the first time at SID 2012 Display Week in Boston starting June 4.
